Business Development Manager - Refinery Sales (Sales & Marketing)

The Business Development Manager will serve as geographical sales manager from initial client contact through opportunity development and deal closings related refinery process technologies. Position reports to the Director of Sales & Marketing.

Job Description

  • Delivers outstanding performance that is clearly recognized by peers and management.
  • Makes contacts at multiple levels in key customer organizations & understands their politics, power centers.
  • Thoroughly understands geographical area issues, competitors, key client power centers.
  • Promotes and markets Company’s technologies and services through technical sales visits, presentations and relationship development.
  • Dotted-line manages other sales representatives around the world.
  • Develops Selling Price for Proposals.
  • Interfaces with Proposal Manager for proposal development, including development of proposal technology concept design and pricing.
  • Evaluates competitor’s position, technology and strengths in sales plan
  • Be customer-centric while balancing internal company requirements.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering; advanced degree is a plus..
  • Minimum 3 years direct selling into refineries or equivalent; 6-10 years overall industry experience.
  • Significant knowledge of refinery processes and petrochemical processes and ability to discern the applications of different process technologies and services.
  • Knowledge of amine and caustic treating principles for removal of sulfur and acidic impurities from hydrocarbon streams, both liquid and gaseous
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills..
  • Willingness to travel, minimum 50%.
  • Knowledge of spent caustic treating principles and management of spent caustic solutions.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and networking skills with customers, partners, and suppliers.
  • Strong presenter, experienced with industry conferences.
  • Knowledge of advantages and disadvantages, both technical and economics, of competing processes
  • Well-developed selling and negotiating skills with proven ability to close complex contracts.
